Injury results in an Aeromedical Flight

At 8:00 PM on Sunday, September 23, Ambulance 4-9 & Ephrata Hospital’s Medic 9 were dispatched to Snake Lane north of Route 340 in Salisbury Township for the traumatic injured person. Upon response of the responding units, the patient condition was relayed to the units by Lancaster County Wide Communications.\

Station 4-9 Fire Police were dispatched to assist with traffic control due to the patient lying in the roadway. Aeromedical helicopter Skycare was placed on standby due to the severity of the patients injuries. Engine 4-9-1 was then dispatched to the scene to set up a landing zone for the helicopter, which was then requested to the scene.\

Engine 4-9-1 then setup the landing zone in the parking lot of a nearby church. Skycare arrived on the scene, and landed in the parking lot, and took over patient care from Ambulance 4-9 and Medic 9. Firefighters assisted Skycare’s crew with loading the patient into the waiting helicopter. Skycare then transported the minor patient to the nearest pediatric trauma center. \

The remaining units were placed available shortly afterwards. The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the incident.
