Accident with entrapment on Churchtown Road

At 4:28PM on Saturday, May 31, Station 4-9, along with Medic 9 and Rescue 3-9, were dispatched to the 300 block of Churchtown Road on Mount Pleasant Hill in the Mount Pleasant section Of Salisbury Township for a vehicle accident involving multiple rollover and entrapment. \

Responding units were advised by Lancaster County 911 of a vehicle overturned with subjects trapped inside. Safety 4-9-2 (M. Lantz) and Safety 4-9 (C. Eno) both arrived on the scene with other EMT’s and reported confirmed heavy entrapment, and requested the response of a medical helicopter, along with a second and third ambulances. Two adult subjects were ejected from the vehicle, one pediatric patient was removed from the vehicle by bystanders prior to arrival of the first responders and one adult was still trapped inside. Ambulance 34-2 and Ambulance 5-2-1 were dispatched as the second and third ambulances. Skycare-1 was dispatched as the medical helicopter.\

After arriving, Chief 4-9 (R. Gossert) assumed the operations sector, Deputy 4-9 (J. Beyer) assumed the LZ (landing zone) sector, and Captain 4-9-3 (O. Esh) assumed incident command inside Engine 4-9-1. Ambulance 4-9 arrived on the scene and began patient care. Engine 4-9-1 and Engine 4-9-2’s crews split up and did various tasks on the scene, while a second Medic unit (Medic 93-1), a second Rescue (Rescue 33), and a second helicopter (Medevac-8) were all requested.\

Rescues 33 & 3-9 both arrived along with Engine 3-9-1 and Squad 3-9 and their respective crews began the task of extricating the trapped passenger in the SUV.\

The most serious of the patients ejected was transported to a local trauma center by Skycare-1, while Ambulance 5-2-1 and Medic 93-1 transported the second ejection victim and the pediatric patient to the trauma center.\

The patient trapped in the SUV was extricated at 5:44PM, and was flown to the local trauma center by Medevac-8.\

Fire Police from White Horse, Honey Brook, and New Holland provided crowd and traffic control at the scene for the duration of the incident, and subsequent investigation.\

The vehicle was removed from the scene by Stacey’s Towing from Honey Brook\

The final units cleared the scene at 9:45PM\
