At 9 PM on Tuesday, January 22, Station 4-9, along with units from the Gap (4-2), Intercourse (4-4) and Honey Brook (33) fire companies were dispatched as the first alarm assignment for the commercial building fire in the 6100 block of Old Philadelphia Pike in the Cains section of Salisbury Township.\

Deputy 4-9 (J. Beyer) and Engine 4-9-1 both responded within a minute and were advised by Lancaster County 911 of a single call, the reporting party was reporting smoke from the roof, and that it smelled like rubber.\
\
Engine 4-9-1 arrived on the scene and investigated the source of the smoke, and traced it to a malfunctioning oil burner in the garage area of the business. The assignment was held to the 4-9 units only and the remainder of the units were canceled.\

The last 4-9 units cleared the scene at 9:22 PM\
