At 3:49PM on Thursday, August 28, Ambulance 4-9 and Engine 4-9-1, along with Ambulance 4-3-1 (Gordonville) and Medic 9 (Ephrata Hospital) were dispatched to the intersection of Route 340 & Martin Road in the Spring Garden section of Salisbury Township for a vehicle accident.\

Arriving units found a horse and open carriage that had been struck by a sedan. Engine 4-9-1 controlled scene hazards, as Ambulance 4-9 began to treat the persons involved in the collision. \

Engine 4-9-2 responded with additional manpower, but was canceled by Command 4-9. Command also canceled Ambulance 4-3-1 as they were not needed. Medic 9 was not required and was released on scene. The driver of the vehicle was not injured and refused treatment. The family that was in the carriage was transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. The horse suffered a few minor scrapes in the crash.\

The sedan was removed from the scene by Blank’s Towing after the Pennsylvania State Police investigated the incident.\

Station 4-9 Fire Police controlled traffic between Millwood and Martin Roads during the incident.\

The final units cleared the scene at 4:33 PM
