Buggy vs. minivan on Route 340

At 10:12PM on Wednesday, April 7, Station 4-9, along with Medic 3 (covering Medic 6), was dispatched to the 5400 block of Old Philadelphia Pike (Route 340) just east of School Lane Road for a vehicle accident involving a horse and buggy. Lancaster County 911 advised the responding units of a van versus a buggy, with one person ejected from the buggy. Medic 6 became available, and canceled Medic 3.\

Ambulance 4-9 and Engine 4-9-1 arrived on the scene and began patient care and controlled scene hazards, while Squad 4-9 assisted the Fire Police with closing the roadway.\

Ambulance 4-3-1 was also dispatched to the scene due to the number of patients involved. Ambulance 4-9 and Medic 6 transported two patients to a local trauma center, while Ambulance 4-3-1 handled obtaining refusals of treatment and transport from the other persons involved in the accident.\

Route 340 was closed between School Lane Road and White Horse Road (Route 897 south) during the incident, which is under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police.\

Blanks Towing arrived on the scene to remove the minivan from the scene. The horse and buggy were removed to a nearby farm.\

The final units cleared the scene at 11:10PM\
