At 9:02 PM on Thursday, November 21, the Paradise Leaman Place Fire Company (Station 4-7), along with mutual aid companies, were dispatched to the 500 block of Strasburg Road (Route 741) in Paradise Township for a barn fire.\
\
Responding units were advised of smoke coming from the 350′ barn with animals still inside. Units from Station 4-7 arrived on the scene with fire showing from the hog barn, and immediately requested a second alarm be struck.\
\
Tanker 4-9 was dispatched at 9:39 to assist. Tankers shuttled water from two fill sites to two dump sites at the scene. The first dump site was on Strasburg Road, and supplied water to the west side of the scene, while a second dump site was established on Blackhorse Road, and supplied the east side of the scene. Tanker 4-9’s port-a-tank was dropped at the Blackhorse site to allow tankers to dump water to supply the units on the fireground.\
\
Tanker 4-9 cleared the scene at 11:24 PM, while the final units cleared the scene shortly before 2AM. The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire. The Lancaster New Era is reporting almost 4,000 pigs were killed in the fire, with the fire causing approximately $600,000 in damages. ( http://articles.lancasteronline.com/local/4/230481 )\
