At 8:42 PM on Tuesday, May 6, Ambulance 4-9 and Ephrata Hospital Medic 9 were dispatched to the 700 block of Gault Road in Salisbury Township for a traumatic injury. Due to the reports from the caller, Engine 4-9-1 was dispatched at 8:44 for the assist. As the units responded, nearby EMT’s arrived on the scene and assessed the patent. It was determined that the injuries were severe, and that immediate specialized care would needed. They requested that aeromedical assistance be dispatched. Medical Helicopter Medevac-8 from Hahnemann Hospital was dispatched to the scene at 8:50. Medic 9 arrived on the scene and confirmed that the patient would need to be flown. \

Chief 4-9 (R. Gossert) advised Engine 4-9-1 to divert to Gault Road in front of the Glen Oaks development and set up a landing zone for Medevac 8. Ambulance 4-9 arrived on the scene and assisted in initial care for the patient. The Ambulance and Medic transported the patient to the landing zone and waited for the arrival of Medevac 8. Medevac 8 arrived at 9:07 and the patent was loaded into the helicopter and flown to a specialized trauma center in the Philadelphia area.\

The last fire and EMS units cleared the scene at 9:31PM. The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the circumstances leading up to the injury. Station 4-9 Fire Police provided traffic control around both the residence and landing zone for the duration of the incident.\
