Vehicle Rescue Training with Honey Brook

On the evening of Monday, March 17th, crews loaded up into Engine 4-9-1 and a few personal vehicles and traveled to the Honey Brook Fire Company (Station 33) to practice vehicle rescue training.\
\
Topics for the evening covered the basics of vehicle stabilization including using wooden cribbing and also the Junkyard Dog Rescue Struts that are carried on both Engine 4-9-1 and Rescue 33; as well as use of the hydraulic rescue tools (“Jaws of Life”). \
\
Assistant 69 (J. Cook) & Battalion 69 (C. Romig) from the Twin Valley Fire Department (Station 69) were on hand to lend advice.\
\
Two evolutions were completed. One the first vehicle, the roof and front doors were removed and the dashboard was displaced. This demonstrated how to remove a patient in the front seat in which may be pinned by the dashboard.\
\
On the second vehicle, the roof was flapped down, which is the easiest way to remove a patent form a vehicle on its side.\
\
*Thanks to Stacey’s Towing from Honey Brook for donating the vehicles and bringing them to the firehouse and removing them; Thanks to Assistant 69 and Battalion 69 for providing your expertise, and thanks to Station 33 for the invite and hospitality*\
