A wind storm raced through the area on the evening of Saturday, March 8th. Sustained winds in the area were between 20 to 35 miles per hour, with a 61 mile per hour gust recorded at Lancaster Airport. The ground was saturated from recent rains in the past days, making it easy for the winds to topple trees over. \
\
One such instance occurred in the 6000 block of Wertztown Road in Salisbury Township. Winds uprooted a tree, and knocked it across the roadway, bringing electrical wires down with it, and disrupting electrical service to the residence whose yard the tree was in.\
\
Station 4-9 Fire Police closed Wertztown Road between Mount Zion Road and Elwood Street, until the Salisbury Township Streets Department could bring barricades to close the road until PPL Electric could arrive and remove the wires and secure the electric service to the residence. Scene safety tape was placed around the hazardous area to keep people away.\
\
During the storm, wind gusts removed roof shingles, vinyl siding, and plywood from the fire station, as well. We hope to have this damage repaired as soon as possible.\
