Squad & Tanker standby for 700+ acre Forest Fire

On two seperate occasions this week, Station 4-9 was dispatched for standbys to assist the departments working on the scene of the massive 700+ acre forest fire that was engulfing the French Creek State Park on the Berks County/ Chester County line.\

At 8:56PM on Monday, April 9, Squad 4-9 responded to a standby detail at Station 35 (Wagontown). Most of Station 35’s crews were at the fire, and manpower was needed to fill their station in the event of an emergency in Station 35’s local. The Squad was released at 1:04 AM the next morning.\

At 1:52PM on Tuesday, April 10, Tanker 4-9 was dispatched as part of a task force assignment from Lancaster County to report to Station 69 (Twin Valley).\

The Lancaster County Task Force was then deployed to Saint Peters Road in Warwick Township, Chester County to watch over the homes and properties in the area. The fire had briefly jumped the fire line in Tanker 4-9’s watch area, but Tanker 4-9 and Engine 1-6-2 quickly doused the flames.\

Units on the Lancaster County Task Force included: Tanker 4-9; Engine 1-3-2 (Denver); Engine 1-6-2 (Lincoln); Engine 3-11-1 (Upper Leacock); Engine 3-12-1 (Terre Hill); Engine 4-2-2 (Gap); Squad 3-9-1 & Truck 3-9 (New Holland); and Tanker 4-3 (Gordonville).\

The Tanker was released at 2:28AM the next morning.\
