At 12:31PM on Sunday, March 21, Station 4-9 was dispatched to the 5300 block of Hammond Road in Salisbury Township for a natural cover fire. \

Lieutenant 4-9 (Steinmetz) marked enroute and reported smoke visible from over a mile and a half away. Upon arriving on the scene, he reported a 100’X50′ area involved, rapidly spreading up over the hill.\
\
Squad 4-9 and Engine 4-9-1 arrived and deployed multiple handlines and began an aggressive fire attack. Tanker 4-9 arrived and supplied Engine 4-9-1 with water and also manpower. Engine 4-9-2 arrived and supplied manpower.\

Lieutenant Steinmetz then requested assistance from Stations 4-4 & 3-2 for additional manpower and water, as well as Ambulance 4-9 to the scene.\

The fire was placed under control at 1:10, with units commencing extensive overhaul of the burned area. Pennsylvania State Forest Fire Wardens investigated the incident. The final units cleared the scene shortly after 3PM.\

Meanwhile at 1:36PM, an engine from Honey Brook (Station 33) and Squad from Churchtown (Station 3-4) were dispatched to cover Station 4-9’s second call in the 6200 block of Ross Road in Salisbury Township for the residential fire alarm. Chief 3-4 (Martin) arrived on the scene with an accidental activation and cancelled the second assignment.\
