At 2:14PM on Tuesday, January 19, Station 4-9, along with an engine from the Honey Brook Fire Company (Station 33), and Truck 3-9 (Liberty-New Holland) were dispatched to a residence in the 5100 block of Mast Road in Salisbury Township for a chimney fire. Lancaster County 911 advised the responding units that the residents were evacuating.\

Safety 4-9 (Eno) arrived on the scene with normal conditions from the exterior and after investigating further inside, confirmed the working fire in the chimney in the basement. Deputy 4-9 (J. Beyer) arrived on the scene and assumed Command 4-9.\

Engine 4-9-1 arrived on the scene deployed a precautionary handline to the basement door, and the crew went to work extinguishing the fire with extinguishers and cleaning the furnace and stove pipes, while Station 33’s crews worked on the exterior dropping the chimney chains down the chimney to clean the burning creosote. Truck 3-9 was not needed, and was cancelled.\

The fire was placed under control at 2:44, with the final units clearing the scene at 3:16PM.\

Station 4-9 Fire Police closed Mast Road between Evans and Mount Zion Roads for the duration of the incident.\
