Chimney Fire in Cains

At 2:44 PM on Wednesday, December 3, Station 4-9, along with mutual aid from Gap, Honey Brook, Intercourse, and Christiana EMS, were dispatched to the 6000 block of Old Philadelphia Pike in the Cains section of Salisbury Township for the dwelling fire. Ambulance 4-9 was out of service having routine maintenance, and was unavailable to respond.\

Lancaster County 911 advised the responding units of a chimney fire with extension into the attic. Deputy 4-9 (Beyer) arrived on the scene with smoke showing from the eaves and chimney and assumed Command 4-9. Engine 4-9-1 and Engine 4-9-2 arrived and deployed handlines and ladders to the dwelling. Truck 4-2 arrived and laddered the roof. The other units all staged on Old Philadelphia Pike, and sent manpower to the scene. The roof, chimney, and stovepipe were all overhauled to ensure that the fire was extinguished.\

Squad 4-4 assisted Stations 4-2 & 4-9 Fire Police with closing Old Philadelphia Pike between Churchtown and Blank Roads for the duration of the incident.\

The fire was placed under control with the final units clearing the scene at 3:40 PM\
