Tanker & Fire Police assist Honey Brook on a 2 alarm barn fire

Shortly before 4:30 PM on Wednesday, April 18, Chester County 911 alerted Honey Brook (33), Twin Valley (69), Churchtown (3-4), and Elverson EMS (89) to a barn fire in the 600 block of White School Road in Honey Brook Township. Responding units were advised that there were horses still inside, as well as a large amount of flammable liquids. A second call from the reporting party then reported that the barn was engulfed in flames and that the horses were now out. \
\
Twin Valley’s Fire Police Captain 69-30 (Mast) was the first to arrive, and confirmed a working barn fire. Captain 33 (J. Artus), who was riding in Engine 33-1, then requested the second alarm assignment and the first alarm Tanker Task Force. Tanker 4-9 was part of the Tanker Task Force and was dispatched at 4:35 PM, and responded immediately with 3 firefighters. Station 4-9 Fire Police were dispatched at 4:43 PM to assist at the scene. \
\
Upon Tanker 4-9’s arrival, they were instructed to pump off their load of water, drop their Port-a-Tank, and fall into the tanker shuttle, shuttling water from the fill site at Struble Lake to the scene. \
\
Fire Police Captain 4-9 (Sheaffer) and Fire Police Lieutenant 4-9 (Flexer) arrived on the scene and were instructed by Honey Brook’s Fire Police Captain 33-30 (B. Artus) to go in to the fire scene and work crowd control to keep the bystanders back.\
\
3 persons received minor injuries at this fire, which was started in the second floor carpentry shop by sparks from a grinding machine landing in a pile of wood shavings. The second floor shop and its contents were destroyed in the blaze, however the first floor, which housed the horse stables, equine equipment and lumber, received only smoke and water damage.\
\
Tanker 4-9 and the Fire Police were released by command at 7:55 PM, and returned to White Horse.\
