Rural Water Supply Drill

Just after 6PM, on Monday, September 17, 2007, crews from several area fire companies gathered at the Gordon Hoover Farm on Cambridge Road in Salisbury Township for a Rural Water Supply Drill. \
\
This drill involved drafting water from a creek and a pond, and covered tanker shuttle operations, porta-tank operations and use of large diameter hose and handlines.\
\
Engines 4-9-1 & 4-9-2 and Gordonville Hose 4-3 laid large diameter hose down the driveway, then Hose 4-3 returned to a midpoint in the driveway and served as a relay pumper, while Engine 4-9-1 and Gap Truck 4-2 flowed water in at the farm.\
\
Engine 4-9-2 & Blue Ball Engine 3-2-2 drafted water from two porta-tanks set up at the end of the driveway, and pumped off to Hose 4-3.\
\
All Tankers and Pumper-Tankers dumped their loads water into the porta-tanks and then went to fill up at one of the two fill sites: Gap Engine 4-2-2 filled Tankers at the fill site on Elam Road, and Honey Brook Engine 33-2 filled Tankers at Route 340 and Cambridge Road. When the tankers were filled, they returned to the farm and dumped their water into the tanks, and repeated the filling and unloading process for several times over the evening.\
\
Later in the evening, Atglen Engine 26-3 transferred from standing by at the farm to the Elam Road fill site to assist with lighting.\
\
After completion of the drill, all units returned to Station 4-9 for refreshments and fellowship.\
\
Thanks to all of our assisting companies for participating in our drill.\
\
Special Thanks to Gordon Hoover and his family for allowing us to train on his farm.\
