At 12:30 PM on Saturday, November 15, Station 49, along with mutual aid, was dispatched to a farm in the 5900 block of Plank Road for a barn fire.
Lancaster County Communications was reporting that multiple callers were reporting a working barn fire. A large column of smoke was visible to the responding units from miles away. Safety Officer 49-1 (Lantz) arrived on scene with a well involved barn fire and immediately requested a second alarm be struck.
Engines 49-1 and 49-2 arrived on scene and together laid approximately 1500′ of supply line up the driveway, to be supplied by multiple surrounding tankers that shuttled water between Waterloo Farm on Route 340 and the fire scene. Fire suppression efforts were commenced, with the fire placed under control at 1:14 PM. Unfortunately some animals did perish in the fire. An extensive overhaul of the barn and contents was started. The final units cleared the scene shortly before 8:30 PM.
Thank You to all of our mutual aid units that were on the scene and assisted with efforts on the scene and also to the companies that stoodby and also handled other emergencies in out district while we were on the fire scene.
Thank you to Chief 89 Tracy Tomlinson and Past Chief 05 Bob Devonshire for allowing use of thier pictures
