Busy Monday evening

The evening of Monday, July 19 proved to be a busy one for Station 4-9. \
\
After a brief, but strong, storm passed over the Township, at 6:00PM, Engine 4-9-1 was dispatched to the 400 block of Jacobs Road for a tree that was struck by lightning, and partially blocked the roadway. Crews arrived and using chainsaws, cut the tree up and removed it from the roadway. Units cleared the scene at 6:30PM.\

Just as Engine 4-9-1 was backing into station, a phone call was received at 6:43PM advising of a tree down blocking the roadway in the 6000 block of Wertztown Road. Squad 4-9 made the response, and arrived with a tree totally blocking the roadway and on top of telephone wires. Using the Squad’s two chainsaws, the tree was removed from the telephone wires and the roadway. Units cleared the scene at 7:08PM\

When the units returned to station, it was time for one of our semimonthly training nights. The evenings training consisted of Engine 4-9-1 and Engine 4-9-2 drafting water from the Pequea Creek on Buena Vista Road and shuttling it back to Station 4-9 and offloading into Tanker 4-9’s porta-tank. Tanker 4-9 then drafted from the tank and discharged the water by two handlines into a neighboring farm pasture. Squad 4-9 assisted with traffic control around the fill site on Buena Vista Road.\
