Chimney Fire on Wertztown Road

At 5:30PM on Friday, March 5, Station 4-9 was dispatched to the 6000 block of Wertztown Road in the Wertztown section of Salisbury Township for a chimney fire. The fire was reported to Lancaster County 911 by a neighbor, whom reported flames from the chimney.\

Units arrived with a working chimney fire, with no fire visible from the exterior. Crews dropped the chimney chains down the chimney to clean the chimney of the burning creosote and debris, and also cleaned out the woodstove and stove pipe. Chief 4-9 (R. Gossert) had operations, while Deputy 4-9 (J. Beyer) had the command.\

Station 4-9 Fire Police closed Wertztown Road between Churchtown and Mount Zion Roads for the duration of the incident.\
