Woods Fire at Spring Gulch

At 2:54 PM on Sunday, March 30, Station 4-9 was dispatched to the Spring Gulch Campground on Lynch Road in Salisbury Township for a woods fire.\

Responding units were advised by Lancaster County 911 that the caller reported that there were dry leaves burning in the campsite, with exposure to a recreational vehicle.\

Units responded within minutes. First arriving Chief 4-9 (R. Gossert) reported that the fire was in the new section of the campground on top of the hill. Deputy 4-9 (J. Beyer) arrived and assumed Command 4-9.\

Command 4-9 advised Engine 4-9-2 and Tanker 4-9 to hold at the gate of the campground, and advised Engine 4-9-1 to proceed in to the scene and utilize the front bumper handline to extinguish the fire. The fire was quickly under control, and Engine 4-9-2 and Tanker 4-9 were released by Command to return to station.\

After raking and giving the area one final wetdown, the final units cleared the scene at 3:25 PM.\

The fire was caused by sparks from a nearby campfire.\
