June 26, 2016

At 2:15 PM on Sunday, June 26, Station 49 Fire & EMS, along with mutual aid, were dispatched to the intersection of Springville and Peters Roads in the Springville section of Salisbury Township for a water rescue.

Lancaster County Communications was reporting a young male subject now underwater, drowning in a pond, with a rescue being attempted by bystanders and other swimmers.

Units arrived to find the male out of the pond, with CPR in progress.

Aeromedical helicopter JeffStat3 was summoned to the scene to transport the teen to a pediatric trauma center in Delaware.

Unfortunately, the teen succumbed to his injuries later in the evening.

We would like to extend our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased in this time of tragic loss.

I am saddened by this news.In the 1950's I walked to Springville(Ed Dehavens store) to catch the school bus.I remember a Joel Bieler who lived on that farm.

a very tragic accident happened here . I live there at the corner of Peters and Springville road .so I heard the dispatch on my monitor .Somebody just pulled him out after I arrived at the pond. an EMT tried CPR right away. but he was gone already. ....... I have now put up a life ring connected to a 60 foot rope . We hung it up at the end of the pond .
